Opening Statements

During Intersolar North America’s keynote address, Gov. Brown urged attendees to continue pushing the message of solar, the benefits of clean renewable energy and environmental responsibility.

“We are fighting our own life support system…. It is a calling to wake people up, to make the progressive steps that are crucial to make sure that we keep going. I guarantee that we are going to get there, because I am going to move aside all obstacles. Whoever and whatever they are, get out of the way! The sun is shining brightly in the State of California.” –Gov. Brown

Storage Technology Advancement

One of the key points in Governor Brown’s address was the need for advancement in storage technology and the ability to harness the power of the sun for use 24 hours a day. This topic was highlighted during a packed panel discussion on Monday.

There was standing room only at the Energy Storage: Innovative Technologies panel, including speaker Bates Marshall, vice president of medium power solutions at SMA America, as they discussed the future of energy consumption and intelligent energy management. The SMA Smart Home concept was applauded as an answer to the goal of an “energy transition.” The Smart Home functions as “intelligence,” managing automatic load controls during peak production hours, and temporary storage of PV electricity allowing for greater grid independence for the homeowner.
