New Sunny Boy Smart Energy Hybrid Inverter Meets Key Safety Standards

SMA America is excited to expand its residential hybrid inverter lineup with two new models: the Sunny Boy Smart Energy 9.6 kW and 11.5 kW. These higher-capacity inverters meet the growing energy demands of modern homes with more power, greater flexibility and increased physical size to match. 

Each inverter carries a UL Certificate of Compliance and meets rigorous safety and performance standards, including UL 1741 SB and IEEE 1547-2018. Ideal for both new installations and repowering projects, these models feature: 

• Up to four independent MPPTs for complex or shaded roof layouts 
• Up to 200% DC oversizing to boost solar production and battery charging 

“What excites me most about these new models is the extra Maximum Power Point Tracking input,” says Alberto Landeros, product manager at SMA America. “It gives installers more flexibility for complex rooftops while also delivering more power.”

The SMA Home Energy Solution, powered by the Sunny Boy Smart Energy inverter, gives homeowners a customizable and streamlined energy system. Lightweight and easy to install, each inverter integrates with the SMA 360° app for fast commissioning. An onboard system manager supports up to five inverters and one SMA Energy Meter, making it a flexible and future-ready energy management solution. 

Backup Power When You Need It 

Homeowners can choose from two backup options: 

• SMA Backup Secure (available now): Delivers 1,920 W of power through a dedicated 120 V outlet.

• SMA Backup Select (launching this summer): Provides up to 5,700 W to power up to seven 120 V loads—ideal for essential appliances like small HVAC units, refrigerators or Wi-Fi during outages.

Both solutions offer peace of mind and daytime grid independence without a battery, as long as the sun is shining.
