Announcing the 2026 Schedule for SMA Solar Academy Large Scale Trainings
The SMA Large Scale Energy Solutions Solar Academy Training Team’s 2026 schedule has officially been released. As demand for renewable energy continues to grow, the need for in-house, certified and properly trained technicians has become increasingly important. To support this demand, SMA America offers multiple training sessions throughout the year, providing valuable opportunities for skill development and certification.
Courses held at the SMA Training Lab in Rocklin, California include a 5 day, in-person, comprehensive hands-on training for the SMA Sunny Central UP and Sunny Central Storage inverters. Additionally, in partnership with RISE Renewables and Mountain Ridge Energy Services, certified training is also available for the SMA Sunny Central and Sunny Central CP (Compact Power) inverters at their facilities.
Why It’s Important to Become a Certified Technician:
Training, however, is about more than simply completing a course; rather, it is about empowering each technician to make informed, safe and efficient decisions in the field. As a result, certified technicians are better equipped to troubleshoot issues effectively, minimize system downtime and reduce overall operational costs across installations. Additional benefits include:
- Advanced troubleshooting methods
- Ability to resolve problems independently
- Safely perform corrective maintenance without voiding SMA equipment warranty
- Less system down time and faster resolution times
To illustrate this impact, a recent trainee who completed the SMA Sunny Central Preventative and Corrective Maintenance course at the SMA Training Lab shared his experience:
“Oh definitely… learning more of the terminology and following the drawings to find out what was actually failing on the components,”
-Will Feliciano, Lead Solar Technician at Enel North America
Notably, Will’s experience reflects the value of comprehensive, hands-on training. In particular, it highlights how the SMA Sunny Central Preventative and Corrective Maintenance course helps equip technicians with the confidence and practical knowledge needed to support today’s advancing inverter and storage technologies. As the industry continues to evolve, the emphasis on certified training remains paramount for ensuring safe operations, reliable system performance and long-term project success.
