Large Scale Solar Storage

SMA America has reached an impressive milestone in solar storage, having sold a cumulative 1 GW (gigawatt) of storage in North America. To reach this landmark achievement, SMA has worked alongside some of the world’s largest storage integrators and celebrates this success with its many partners.

As a result of this tremendous growth, SMA will be doubling sales and applications engineering support for the large-scale storage category in 2021. Going forward, this will increase the capacity for business and pave the way for future storage milestones, as the company participates in dozens of projects globally.

One of the projects SMA product is currently installed on is the world’s largest battery storage project, located outside of San Diego. The Gateway Energy Storage Project launched in June of this year and utilizes 98 SMA inverters.

In the SMA product portfolio there are a wide variety of AC and DC coupled solutions with 1,000 and 1,500 VDC options for storage, as well as PV + storage applications. Known for being among the industry’s best in quality and design, SMA’s inverters are battery agnostic, which allows customers a high degree of flexibility in system design.

SMA offers an Operations & Maintenance program for storage projects, which provides assistance to customers for the upkeep of their systems, plus access to experts throughout the critical commissioning phase. These are only a few components of the highly regarded customer service that distinguishes SMA as an industry leader.

With the expansion of large-scale storage following this milestone, SMA is well-positioned to continue growing the storage portfolio. Click here for more information on the SMA portfolio of storage solutions.
