Auto-update: How to enable this setting
The latest firmware ensures optimal protection. For this reason, SMA products have the Auto-Update setting enabled by default. The installed firmware is regularly checked for updates and automatically updated when a new version becomes available. The Automatic Firmware Updates setting is also essential for successful commissioning: without enabling it, the system cannot be installed properly.
Occasionally, this setting is changed manually—preventing automatic updates from being installed. The good news: If this function is disabled on your system, you can change the setting. To help you with this, we’ve prepared the following FAQ.
What should you pay special attention to when changing this setting?
What really matters is which portal your system is registered in: Sunny Portal classic or Sunny Portal powered by ennexOS (you can recognize it by the logo in the top left corner).
My system is registered in the Sunny Portal Classic via Sunny Home Manager 2.0: What do I need to do?
- Log into Sunny Portal as the system administrator.
- In the device overview, select Sunny Home Manager 2.0, then go to Device Properties and switch to Extended Configuration.
- Under Automatic Updates, select the checkboxes for Sunny Home Manager 2.0 and all PV system devices.
My system is registered in the Sunny Portal powered by ennexOS via Sunny Home Manager 2.0: What do I need to do?
- Log into Sunny Portal powerd by ennexOS as the system administrator.
- Open the system.
- Under Configuration, open System Properties.
- Under Automatic Updates, select the checkboxes for Automatic Security and Function Updates and Automatic Updates for All SMA Products.
I’m using Sunny Portal powered by ennexOS together with the SMA Data Manager M. How can I change the setting to Automatic Update in this case?
- Log into the system as System Administrator or Installer.
- Select Data Manager as a device in the Sunny Portal powered by ennexOS.
- Go to Configuration and switch to the Parameters section.
- Activate Automatic Updates and Device Updates.
Do I need the installer password?
This password is only required for Webconnect systems when updates are to be activated locally on the device.
What happens after switching to Automatic Updates?
After activation, updates are automatically redistributed by the communication product, and the inverter’s automatic firmware update is disabled by default. This prevents multiple downloads of updates.
Can the automatic update also be activated directly on the inverter?
This measure may only be carried out by certified specialists. In this case, activation is performed via the user interface after logging in as an Installer. You can find more details and a full description here.
