The new solar installation brings the benefits of carports\u2014a cost-effective and innovative way to generate power\u2014to Smithtown, a sprawling eastern New York City suburb on Long Island.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The school district administration understood the carport solar project would significantly reduce the overall electricity bill for the campus. Those savings are now reinvested in educational programs, proving educational solar projects are an investment in the future, in both education and the environment.<\/p>\n<p>By installing solar panels on a parking structure, Smithtown High School West can now leverage this otherwise under-utilized surface to produce clean electricity and actively lower energy costs every day. The system was installed by <a href=\"https:\/\/sunrisepowersolutions.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sunrise Power Solutions<\/a>, the leading solar energy partner to the K-12 educational market in the New York area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a popular option among the K-12 municipal industry as money saved from lower energy bills can be directly reallocated back into education,\u201d said Kristian Ingebrigtsen, chief operations officer at Sunrise Power Solutions.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-9830 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.sma-sunny.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/sUNRISE-eLECTRIC2-1.jpg\" alt=\"Solar carport\" width=\"262\" height=\"199\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 262px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 262\/199;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The carport features 5,421 JA Solar panels and 29 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sma-america.com\/products\/solarinverters\/sunny-tripower-core1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SMA SUNNY TRIPOWER CORE1<\/a> inverters. The CORE1 products were ultimately selected for this project because of their flexibility,<\/p>\n<p>reliability and competitive cost, which the school district considered as factors that would benefit the community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were proud to work on this project as we know it will benefit the community for years to come,\u201d said Ingebrigtsen .<\/p>\n<p>The project has a total size of 2.06 MW and an estimated annual output of 3.345 KWH.
