{"id":117105,"date":"2018-03-20T09:00:15","date_gmt":"2018-03-20T08:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sma-sunny.com\/?p=117105"},"modified":"2020-12-22T10:29:18","modified_gmt":"2020-12-22T09:29:18","slug":"sunny-centrals-pilot-hometown-pv-system-at-sacramento-international-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sma-sunny.com\/us\/sunny-centrals-pilot-hometown-pv-system-at-sacramento-international-airport\/","title":{"rendered":"Solar Spotlight: Sunny Centrals Pilot \u201cHometown\u201d PV System at Sacramento International Airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>In an effort to advance its commitment to sustainability and renewable energy, the <a href=\"https:\/\/sacramento.aero\/smf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sacramento International Airport<\/a> (SMF), which saw 10.9 million passengers travel through last year, recently installed a new PV system.<\/strong><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The 7.9 MW project at SMF, which uses SMA inverters, consists of two sites: A 15-acre plot near the airport&#8217;s economy parking lot, and a 20-acre location north of the runway.<\/p>\n<p>SMA is particularly proud to be part of this project since its U.S. headquarters operates in the Sacramento region, and this is the company&#8217;s hometown airport.<\/p>\n<p>In total, the system uses two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sma-america.com\/products\/solarinverters\/sunny-central-1850-us-2200-us-2500-ev-us-2750-ev-us.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sunny Central 2200-US inverters<\/a> integrated with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sma-america.com\/products\/medium-voltage-transformers\/medium-voltage-block-1850-us-20-2200-us-20-2500-us-20-2750-us-20.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Medium-Voltage Block<\/a>, and three <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sma-america.com\/products\/solarinverters\/sunny-central-500cp-us-630cp-us-720cp-us-750cp-us-800cp-us-850cp-us-900cp-us.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sunny Central 800 CP-US inverters<\/a>. SMA&#8217;s Sunny Central inverters, seamlessly integrated with the MV block, deliver robust power production and reliable performance.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-8489 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.sma-sunny.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Array-image.jpg\" width=\"483\" height=\"296\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 483px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 483\/296;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.borregosolar.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Borrego Solar<\/a>, a top commercial solar company that specializes in designing and constructing solar and energy storage projects, constructed the project with financing from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrg.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NRG<\/a>, which will own and operate the facility. NRG will sell electricity to SMF under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The airport will save approximately $850,000 per year over the 25-year PPA, with the system offsetting 30% of SMF&#8217;s electricity use.
