However, to fully demonstrate its commitment to renewable energy\u2014and to take advantage of increased energy savings\u2014the company quadrupled its existing 200 kW solar system by adding 800 kW of installed capacity, all with the help of SMA\u2019s Sunny Boy inverters and Sunny Tower mounting system.<\/p>\n<p><b>Project Details<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Kevin Bailey, owner and operator of Troy, N.Y.-based <a href=\"http:\/\/highpeakssolar.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">High Peaks Solar<\/a>, expanded Davidson\u2019s PV system by installing 3,137 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.suniva.com\/multicrystalline-modules.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Suniva MVX<\/a> 255W modules and 96<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sma-america.com\/en_US\/products\/grid-tied-inverters\/sunny-boy\/sunny-boy-5000-us-6000-us-7000-us-8000-us.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Sunny Boy 7000-US<\/a> inverters mounted on 16 Sunny Towers. According to Bailey, the decision to use SMA products\u2014particularly the Sunny Tower\u2014for this project was a strategic one. \u201cSMA inverters offer the best track record in the industry for reliability and durability and have no problem operating in the sub-zero temperatures that Watertown can experience,\u201d he explained. \u201cAlso, the Sunny Tower system provided the design flexibility we needed to create very concise system sizing in order to meet state PV incentive program requirements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With the additional 750,000 kWh produced each year, the entire system now offsets as much as 100 percent of the energy needs of the five dealerships that comprise Davidson Automotive Group.<\/p>\n<p><i>Solar Spotlight aims to highlight SMA inverters in real-world situations.
