The New SUNNY BOY 1.5/2.5 Has Arrived: All About Installation, Commissioning & Settings

The new Sunny Boy 1.5/2.5 has arrived and will be available starting mid-April 2015*. The PV inverter is suitable for all those who want to tap into the full potential of a small-scale PV system.
Easy commissioning thanks to user interface
The new, small Sunny Boy has a wide range of applications and is very easy to integrate into a home network. Together with the SMA Energy Meter, it makes your energy consumption in the household transparent. In addition, its innovative design, broad input voltage range of 80 V to 600 V and communication concept with integrated user interface offer numerous advantages during installation and commissioning. Our two Tech Tips will explain the advantages and offer useful information to installers as well as providing practical support to PV systems operators. Have fun!
Find more information about the new Sunny Boy on our website.
* The Sunny Boy 1.5/2.5 is expected to be available in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands starting mid-April 2015, and in Australia as of May 2015. Gradual rollout in other countries, depending on certifications (except in the U.S. and Japan).
I did a firmware update for sunny boy 1.5 went poorer .. there is a slow power boost and max power is only 1000w whereas before upgrade was 1500w
I’m disappointed in the quality of SMA and more software version 2.05 nowhere to be found which would return back to the …
Hi Rane,
Thank you for your comment. We are sorry for your bad experience with the new update. I will inform my colleagues about your suggestion for improvement.
Sunny regards,
Carolyn
Hi
As I am not able to se the energy metter from the inverter.
Could it be a fw problem?
metter fw 2.0.16.R

Hi
To connect the Sunny Boy 1.5 to a energy metter .Is it posible to use a TP-Link TL-PA4010
Best regards.
Hello Marcos,
In general, it is advisable to establish a direct connection via ethernet cable between the Sunny Boy inverter and the Energy Meter.
Please bear in mind that we cannot guarantee an accurate functionality if power line adapters are use.
Kind regards, Tobi
1) Hi Tobi, connecting the Emeter directly to the inverter allows both devices to still connect to Internet (Sunny Portal)?
How do they connect to Internet if their ethernet ports are used only to make them communicate between eachother?
2) SB3000TL-21 is compatible with EMETER-10 for zero feed-in mode, right?
Thank you!
Hello Vanja,
As the post is outdated, you may contact our SMA Service for further support.

I have sunny boy 2.5-1VL_40 and sunny island 3.0. Can I use them in an off grid system?
I have a sunny boy 2.5 and have to install it but don’t know wich country code to use . Our net is 230 volt 2X115 volt and 60 Hz how I go by to install this inverter.
Regards david
Hello David,
the Sunny Boy 2.5 is not suitable for split-phase-net. Please contact your installer, he can help you to find a solution.
Kind regards, Lucas
GoodMorning,
is the SB 1.5-1 VL40 compatible with the energy meter?
If yes, what is the part no. of the correct energy metert?
Regards,
Federico
Hi Federico,
yes the SMA Energy Meter can linked directly with the SB1.5 1VL-40 via Ethernet cable. The order code is: EMETER-10.
Regards, Annika
Ok,
And when e-meter is connected to the same network of the inverter.
In the same Web page of the inverter i can see at the same time what produced the FV and what I consume?
Or I need another components?
Federico, you can see this on the WebInterface and also on the Sunny Portal, which you can use for free.
Regards, Annika
Hi,
Sorry for the questions…
Will the SMA SB-2000HF high-frequency string inverters work with the SMA SI-80H-11 sunny island battery inverter?
Essentially I am trying to ascertain which small scale solar inverters will function with the sunny island battery inverters. Do not wish to buy an incompatible solar inverter.
Hi David,
No problem :-).
The smallest inverter which works with a Sunny Island Off Grid System is the Sunny Boy 3000TL-21.
Best regards,
Sarah
thanks
Hi David,
No problem 🙂
You find all information about PV inverters in Off-Grid Systems in the following document:
http://files.sma.de/dl/7910/SB-OffGrid-TI-en-42.pdf
You can use the SB1300TL-10 or SB1600TL-10 but you can`t use the SB2000HF-30.
Best regards
Leonie
Hi,
Will the SMA SB-1300TL-10 or SB-1600TL-10 string inverters work with the SMA SI-80H-11 sunny island battery inverter?
Many thanks.
Hi,
one more question:
Are Sunny Boys 1.5 and 2.5 suitable for off-grid or self-consumption applications with Sunny Island Inverters?
Hi,
I’m very sorry for the late answer.
Unfortunately, this is not possible at the moment, because we don’t have a country standard. If you wish, I keep you up to date.
Best regards,
Sarah
disappointing to read that the sunny boy 1.5 will not be supported for use with the sunny island; I was looking at the microinverters but evidently they will also not “co-operate” with a sunny island battery inverter.
so, what is the smallest capacity solar inverter that *will* work with a sunny island battery inverter?
Hi,
thank you Sarah for your answer.
So, if I understand correctly, they will be able to work with Sunny Islands in the future?
Hi Evgen,
This is non-scheduled. Sorry.
Best regards
Leonie
SMA inverters are best in performance, but their availability in India is difficult. Even SMA India do not market them directly and dealers seems less responsive.
SMA must review its marketing policy (must add more re sellers), so inverters are easily available to common men at write price.
Hi Rakesh,
Thanks for your comment.
This is valuable feedback. There will be taken necessary steps to improve the availability in India.
For further information and queries, please refer directly to SMA India:

Two questions:
1/ When will this inverter be available to UK wholesalers?
2/ New 96 cell Benq Sunforte 300W 20% efficient panels are now available for single purchase. Because their Voc is 65V no micro-inverters are available on the market to be used with them. The Sunny Boy 1.5 will allow for a two panel system to be created because its Vmin is 80v which is great. SolarEdge P500 power optimizers are usable with these panels but does any SMA inverter have the ability or should it have the ability to have it’s MPPT switched off to allow use with power optimizers?
Hi,
1. The inverter is available now. Please contact your wholesaler.
2. You have the possibility to switch from MPPT mode into the “constant voltage mode” in order to enable the inverter operating on a constant voltage source as well (login in the installer mode).
Best regards,
Sarah
